Quality Craft / Gloor Craft (USA) B&O Wagon Top Box Car

Quality Craft kits came out starting in the early 80s. This one consists of a brass shell and various etched brass parts (trucks and couplers not included). The same kits were later sold by Gloor Craft.

Custom built by the B&O and the PRR, “Wagon Top” cars derived their nickname from the fact that their outside bracing resembles a covered wagon. The PRR’s car was meant to increase inside height dimensions for increased efficiencies whereas the B&O’s design came mostly out of the road’s ever evolving desire to save money wherever and whenever possible. The B&O’s design proved highly successful both in terms of providing a reliable car to transport goods as well as being a money saver (building cars in one's own shops being cheaper than buying somebody else's cars).

I'm not sure which specific prototype this model might be based on, but cars of this general type date back to about 1939.
